Demons take a local RTT

This past weekend I played in a small 14 person Nova style RTT. We had a lot of good competitors there, 3 of them beig in the Nova intatioal, and one other being a participant in it last year.

I got paired up with a Grey knight list with a bunch of acolytes in razors, 3 dreads/ven dreads, 2 dread knights and 10 interceptore. A plague marine based nurgle army with epidemius, and a blanced ork list, with lootas, shootas, nob bikers, mega nobs, and some other stuff.

I think the final incarnation of my list is going to look something like this. I'm very pleased with its performance thus far, and all I need to do is test it against  necrons some more.

Flying Circus post test games

So a lot of what you guys said in your last few posts seemed to be true. Just relying on FMC's to do all the heavy lifting is pretty bad since their damage output is pitiful. I mean they are perfectly killy monsters, but you pay a lot of points for them, and they really just don't make their points back.

After testing screamers and flamers in larger squads, I'm starting to really appreciate their value. I've found 6 to be the optimal number for flamers, since they will on average glance a vehicle to death on that number, and I always seem to lose 5 flamers when my opponent dedicates real shooting to them, though that may just be coincidence.

I really don't like the bloodthirster sadly. His strength 8 vector strikes were amazingly good and I can appreciate that. But they are only really uuseful against stormravens, vendettas, and necrons. Not that these are uncommon, but he really does almost nothing in the other games. Also I don't know why but I roll like a bitch with him, averaging 2-3 hits on the charge with weapon skill 10, and it takes about 5-6 armor saves to drop him despite his 3+. I know it's just dice, but it's been like 3 games in a row now lol. He was useful to walk through paladin armies, but now that I'm running more screamers and flamers, I'm hoping I can just kill them with a ton of armor save ignoring stuff.

The princes do work, vector strike + Beath is a very devestating combo. After playing games with them with no hit and run, and then hit and run, I've found that you really do need it. It will make chargi things like wraiths, scarabs, large space marine squads, guard, etc... not nearly as scary since there's no chance of whiffing and getting stuck for like 12 rounds.

I also have found that with fewer monsters I don't need icons. In fact they're sort've bad in a way that they are on my troops, not only making them even a higher priority to kill, but also, making it so that I want to put them closer to the action.

Nova demans troops. Lots of troops! lol

So here's the newly tweaked list.

Cutting back to 1750 for the inviational is also not hard, I can cut the flamers down to 5 man, drop a screamer squad, and drop a unit of demonettes. That leaves me with 17 points left.

Drive up into mid field, get out and shoot people off the table. Seems effective to me. Use grand strategy to scout the purifiers and pallies up early, or strike squads if you're playing a deep strike army, or just make the purifiers scoring.

Demon Bomb takes a RTT!

Well it's not saying much lol, but it is saying something. This past Saturday I brought a nurgle plaguebomb army to a small RTT and went 2-0-1 for first.

Here's the list I brought,

The basic idea is that turn 1 (hopefullly) epidemius will come in and explode all over the grots with aura of decay killing a good number (17 on average) and getting the tally way up there. Then between the demon princes vector striking and breath of chaosing I can max out the tally by turn 2/3.

I thought it would be a decently solid list, but very gimicky, but after the 3 test games I played I saw some real merit to the list. Surprisingly it doesn't just fall apart after I lose epidemius, I was palying against a Draigowing army, which had 1 unit of 10 paladins and 2 units of 10 terminaters which all combat squaded. They shot epidemius and the 14 plaguebearers for 2 straight turns and killed him by turn 2, but the demon princes were already pumping out 2 rounds of 4 breaths of chaos which was really wearing him down aand I ended up tabling him pretty comfortably.

The idea is that epidemius is near impossible to kill when burried in a unit of 14 plaguebearers, and if you do shoot your whole army at it you're going to get eaten by the stuff that doesn't need toe tally to kill you.

While the tally is at least at 15 my troops are nearlly unkillable. 5+/3+ is really good, but then with fateweaver its 5+/5+/3+ that's a 14% chance of failure... They get those saves from everything in the game, yes even strength 10. Feel no pain is denied from wounds that inflict instant death, demons are immune to instant death, thus the wound can not inflict instant death, so it can't bypass feel no pain either.

In round 3 I played a litteral copy of the list I took to Nova last year. It was the exact same thing litterally except he took out the inquisitor and a dreadnaught and put in a dreadknight. (much worse for me) I had turn 1 so I deployed the grots and waited, and then he siezed, put up warp quake, and killled half of the grots. Even still I was able to pull out a draw heavily in my favor. Really he was the one pulling out the draw lol.

I played around with the points and the lessons I learned from the event and this is a newly fine tuned version.

Grey knight Purifier horde

This was the first grey knight list that I've come up with. It has increadible shooting, and really plays to the mission strengths really well. It has a lot of problems with Hammer and Anvil deployent, dark eldar with night shields and double lash.

The really issue is the max range 24, the fact that it's relatively easy to kill psy cannons, and the fact that 60 foot slogging marines is really not that hard to kill anymore with cover being far less useful.

And yeah, I know it's boring as crap lol.

1990. It really can just shoot a lot of armies off the table, but the real problem is range. 2 of the 5 games I've played with this list have ended with me having very, very few models on the table, and winning anyway because every model scores,  and it's only 8 kill points. If Nova keeps it so troops below half count for full victory points in quarters I might consider running this at Nova, otherwise probably not.

The brown paintbrush is back! and 6th ed happened

I know it's been like a month or 2 since I've posted anything, and i apologize for that. There's no realy excuse I have other then my own laziness... but just because I haven't been posting doesn't mean I havent been playing! I have around 13-15 games of 6th ed under my built, (including a local RTT win with tyranids!) and I would like to share a lot of my theories and list ideas on the game. Now I don't claim to be anythig close to a master of 6th yet (I'm not Stelek :P), on the contrary I'm actually having a lot of trouble really figuring out what makes the rules tick.

I have come up with a lot of different grey knight and demon lists that I really like. And after a bunch of test games with tyranids I honestly feel like they've gotten worse. I've given them an honest chance, but I feel like 6th is now a shooting game (I felt that 5th was dominated by close combat mind you) making everything even harder for the nids, to a point which they just can't compete.

Here's some of the things I've discovered thus far.

The number of *viable* builds in the game is at an all time high. That's very good for the game as it increases diversity, but it also incredibly difficult to build balanced lists now. I often find myself struggling to come up with an army that can handle the necron flier list of doom, have decent long range shooting/mobility, have some sort of combat potential, the ability to deal with deathstars and fearless blobs etc... Genereally speaking I am not happy with a list if it can't handle litterally everything in the game in some way. My grey knights could handle anything you could throw at me in 5th, which is why I was so successful, but now there are so many different ends to the spectrum it might not be possible to make a true all comers list,

Cover sucks. Unless you can make it better. *Cough* necrons/halrequins *Cough*

2 up saves can really pull some weight, not dting to a majority of power weapons really changes how you have to prepare for terminaters and the like.

Multi charging is garbage. Multi charging was how I won a majority of my games in 5th, be it deathcults charging 3 squads, purifiers charging multiple units and getting cleansing flame spam on all of them, ymgarls with FNP and T5 tying up a gunline or whatever, it's what I did. But nowadays it just doesn't work like that :(

Feel no pain is much better, I know it's only 5+, but I don't care. You get it from almost anything, it completely changes how you kill things like MC's with feel no pain.

Shooty tanks are better since being shaken is a rare feat and even then you can still shoot. But transporty tanks kind of suck. The new charging out of vehicle rules really kill you.

Fearless is also an absurdly good rule, same with and they shall know no fear. Just pretend like leadership isn't a thing against a majority of armies and you'll be happy.

Psychic powers are ridiculous. The end.

There are many more changes I've found but these are really just the major ones. I'm goign to start posting up a lt of lissts I've tried/ want to try with with 6th edition. The hard part is Nova is in a lottle more than a month and I really need to start working on an army for it.

Demons for a tourney and fun facts!

Well here's the fun fact! I'm finished with high school as of today! Well that's not really true. I have 3 finals to take next week and then there is the actual graduation ceremony but I finished all of my classes! Exciting stuff there lol.

Now for what you guys actually care about, my demons! I've decided to whether the storm and bring my demons out to play at an 1850 point tournament at Showcase comics and games tomorrow. The real reason I'm doing this other then the fact that my demons are crazy fun and I've neglected them is that I'm seriously contemplating demons for the nova invitational! That's right I'm honestly thinking about bringing my demons to the nova invitational. It all depends how I stand up to the other grey knight players out there. Hopefully I'll get paired up with a few and actually manage to win so I can bring my demons with some confidence. If any of my games tomorrow are tactically noteworthy I'll even do a battle report.

So here's the slightly unorthadox demon list I'll be bringing.

I'm running a 40k GT

There will be a 40k tournament this year at Dexcon, it will be the first year this convention is holding a 40k GT. Here is the link to the convention's website, http://www.dexposure.com/dexcon15.html

The GT will be a 2 day, 6 round 2000 point 40k tournament. It will be run as a Nova Open Prep event, and will be using the Nova Open format and scenarios. It will take place on July 7th and 8th, (4 rounds Saturday and 2 Sunday). Fully painted armies are required. (That means at least 3 colors) Standard force organization will be used and no imperial armor or forge world units will be allowed.

The tournament will use 5th edition rules of warhammer 40k regardless of the releases of warhammer 40k 6th edition.

There are 64 available spots for the tournament, and although it's the gt's first year we are expecting a full house.

As the event is part of the convention you will need to purchase a convention pass and input a specific code when you pay to let them know you plan on playing in the GT. As a tournament attendee you will have 2 options of payment. The first is purchasing a full convention pass at a $10.00 discount. The normal cost for the convention pass is $55.00, however if you enter the access code indicating you are playing in the 40k GT you will only have to pay $45.00. This will allow complete access to the convention from July 4th through July 8th. The second method of payment is purchasing a weekend pass which will also feature a $10.00 discount. The normal weekend pass costs $45.00, but if you enter the code indicating you are playing in the 40k GT then you will only have to pay $35.00. The weekend pass will give access to the whole convention from Friday at 8pm, July 6th through the remainder of the weekend.

If you plan on attending the GT, then be sure to input this code when buying your ticket: 40KGT151

As far as prize support goes there will be prizes for ren man (best overall) general (the single undefeated player) paint (best appearance) and sports. There will also be prizes for 2nd and 3rd in each category. We're looking to have $1000+ in prize support for the tournament in addition to trophies and plaques.

The convention is in Morristown New Jersey at the Morristown Hyatt and Confrence center in New Jersey.

I know it's not a lot of information right now, and I will try to get more information out for you in the near future. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me or email me at Nicknanavati@yahoo.com

Quick little update!

So the opportunity for me to run my very own 40k GT has come. Now assuming costs are reasonable this is probably going to happen this July. More details on that once I know if it can actually happen or not. Mark your calender guys!

Aside from that I have an 1850 point RTT coming up at Showcase Comics and Games, and I have 2 thoughts about that so far. 1st I could run my demons, but that would require me to fix them up as a lot of them have broken. 2nd would be to run a draigowing style list.

Here are the pros for demons, it's demons! I haven't played them in a tournament (aside from a local RTT once) sincelast April! They need some love!

And the pros for grey knights is that if I bring the draigowing then I can test a list that if I like I can possibly bring to Nova. I would really like Draigowing to work but haven't really played with them at all.

Here is the Draigowing list I've been toying around with.

Back From Adepticon!

Man did I have a great (although exhausting) time! I have to say this and Nova are up there competining for my favorite event slot, although I might have to give it to adepticon based on that I got to meet a lot of guys I've always wanted to meet!

Let's see I got there way too early Friday and hung out with Brad (Hulksmash for awhile) then we eventually got a pick up game in, in which due to time we called it, but we both agreed I had it. It was a nice friendly warm up for the champs the next day.

Speaking of which I played my grey knights it. In hindsight had I known there were no tyranid players I would have played my tyranids, but after the event of the weekend took place I don't know if that still holds true. Round one I got paired with  newish player playing foot marines with sternguard and pedro. Some poor deployment errors, and the bad match up he got, was way more than enough to make up for the slightly below average rolls I had. It was a fun relaxing game which was good, and I actually felt like my opponent honestly enjoyed it.

In round 2 I found myself against Christian A. The guy who won the Bay Area Open with guard. Only about half way through the game did I actually realize that and then I understood why the match was so tough. In general my grey knights have only lost to guard once and Christian came damn close to winning it this time. A had a few above average rolls against chimeras early, and then I also got first turn, which proved to be too much for the guard. But man was that a good game.

Round 3 I played against a grey knight player (it had to heppen eventually), which was a shame since grey knights is the worst match up for my army. He was a guy all the way from Sweden named richard, and he really knew what he was doing. He was also a fantastic sport. I played a lot of really, really good and fun games this weekend, but this one was my favorite. I won the roll for first, which honestly may have been the only reason I had a chance, his list was shootier, more mobile, and more assulty than mine, the only the thing I had him on was durability of scoring models. I threatened his ravens witht eh alpha strike so he opted to reserve them, but the then both came on turn 2 and boosted in my face. He rolled an 11 for his shrouding check which allowed me to blow up a raven and remove the multi melta from the other. In the end his army started walking through ine, killing my vehicles and strikes in droves (he got every single vehicle barring a weaponless dread) eventually though I  demeched him and my death cults got 2 seperate charges off on each of his deathcult squads and slaughtered them both, thanks to some cleansing flame back up. In the end I managed to have it set up for a turn 5 win, unless he could pick up a kill point with his dreads (easier said then done since the only this he could shoot at was my infantry, but he did just enough wounds to my death cults, to force me to allocate 1 save to my inquisitor causig him to fail his 3+ go to ground and get insta killed. In the end we drew all the way down including in victory points with a margin of 127 I think in my favor (I needed 185 to win). A great game it was.

Round 4 I got paired up against a space wolf player who knew he was in for some hurt. He basically ran a bunch of grey hunters and long fangs, but again I won the roll for first and there was no decent place to hide. I shot his army for 2 turns killing every rhino and the long fangs, basically leaving him at the mercy of my land raider and death cults. He did have some pay though as a grey hunter squad charged and vaporized a strike squad and he almost stole one of  the objectives (recon) which was to get more units (scoring or otherwise into your opponents deployment zone than they have in yours. He used his 3 units of 1 speeder to hide and hopefully threaten the deployment zone. It ended with my deathcults eating 2 or 3 squads of grey hunters and a rune priest and happily camping in his deployent zone, and the heavy bolters and psyflemen shooting what little parts of the speeders they could see.

Every game I played I had a great time in and really enjoyed. As we were waiting for results I found myself sitting with Tony Kopach and Reece Robins talking about how we all drew a game (those 2 drew each other final round) and how Tony was probably guarnteed a spot in the top 16 thanks to getting 11 out of 12 possible objective but me and Reece probably were out since we both only had 8. I also assumed Reece had a stronger strenght of schedule than me since he played Tony drew the round after I did. So the judges came up and started spitting out awards.

Early on the mentioned sportsmanship, and they said 2 players tied for best sportsman, and they were goign to give it to someone named Noah, with no other mention of the other guy (which I found to be strange but made no mention of). Then they got to the final 16 and the 16th seed was Reece, at which point my heart sank as I thought that meant I was out, then in 15th seed they called me! My goal for the weekend had been achieved, to qualify for Sunday. That's all I reasonably wanted to do (winning it all would've been awesome but I did say reasonably lol) I was actually so happy that I didn't even hear them call my name for best overall. That's right, someone had to tap me on the shoulder telling me that I won, for me to realize what had just happned!

I won best overall in the 256 person GT! Apparently I was the guy who tied for best sportsman with Noah, and I had a 38 out of 40 for paint. I was absolutely ecstatic! I was telling my team mates from the team tournament that I was going to be too full of myself with happiness to actually give a crap during the team tournament, but I'm glad that didn't actulayy happen.

On a humorous note, aside from the comedations and the fancy plaque, I pretty much won a free tyranid army. WOO! Exactly what I needed lol....

So Saturday came around and me and my amazing teammates, Andrew Gonyo, Brad Townsend, and Aaron Aelong were in the team tournament. Also I have to give a shout out to Andrew for building, converting, sculpting, and painting the eintire 4k point army and display board which was apparently 100 hours worth of work to an excpetional standard. The guy has mad skizzles. We were all trying our absolute best to try and win it, with no honest expectation of doing so given that there were 116 teams. However, in round 3 Brad and I drew he game only getting half the points. Well we figured it was okay we were still sitting at 201 out of a possble 227 battle point after round 3, and then we figured if we could max out round 4 we could stand a pretty good shot at winning! However, the unthinkable happened. Aaron and Brad lost their half of round 4, and Andrew and I came damn close to losing too, but eventually squeaked it out.

There were no hard feelings between any of us, we all did our best and we all had a good time, but we were pretty bummed out when they didn't call our name for any of the other prizes. We assumed all out  efforts were for nothing but then, right as I was about to pass out from a combination of dissapointment and exhaustion, they announced the winners, team They Shall Know Fear! That was us! We won the team tournament! We all started screaming like little girls and have a bromantic orgy with each other but it was all good and fun. I'm pretty sure we ended up with a box bigger than me, and in it we found ourselves with easily 300-400 worht of models per person. We all hung out in our hotel room until about 12:30 or so at which point I decided sleep needed to happen since I had to be up at 4:30am for champs.

More on that to come, but so far I have won best overall out of 256, tying for best sport, (which I think I'm most proud of), and getting a 38 out of 40 for paint which was also freaking awesome! And then our team won the team tournament! What an amazing weekend!

Adepticon in 2 Days!

I'm heading out to Adepticon this Thursday and man is it stressful! Missing 3 days of school is cool until the work load hits you. On the bright side I'm looking forward to an awesome weekend full of gaming!

I'm supposed to arrive Thursday afternoon at 3pm, so if any of you guys want to meet up let me know!

I've signed up to play in the team tournament on the team "They Shall Know Fear" featuring myself, Hulksmash, Target (Andrew Gonyo), and Aaron Aelong, all incredibly exceptional players. And I have to give a shout out to Andrew for painting all 4000 points of the army to a very high standard in an incredibly short amount of time!

I'm also playing in the 40k championships where I will be featuring my grey knight list! It's pretty much an1850 version of the army I took took to WFN. I'm looking forward to catching up with some awesome friends and meeting some new people.

Colonial GT Stuffs!

I know I'm like ridiculousy far behind on posting stuff for the blog, but that's life.  I did bring my tyranids with me to the colonial GT this past weekend in ew Jerseey, which was also a fantastic event which I highly reccomend you guys to check out. My friends and myself ended up taking the entire top 5.

1st Luke Riabowl with dark eldar
2nd Andrew Gonyo with grey knights
3rd Rich Therkorn with sisters
4th Eric Hoerger with necrons
5th Nick Nanavati with nids

Congrats to us for sweeping the GT lol.

Here's the list I brought.

HQ
Swarmlord 280
Tyrant Guard- lash whips 65

Elites
2 Hive Guard 100
2 Hive Guard 100
8 Ymgarl Stealers 184

Troops
10 Gaunts 50
10 Gaunts 50
Tervigon- adrenal glands toxin sacs cluster spines catalyst 195
Tervigon- adrenal glands toxin sacs cluster spines catalyst 195

Heavy
Trygon- adrenal glands 210
Trygon- adrenal glands 210
Trygon- adrenal glands 210

It's my standard 1850 list which I've played easilly 100+ times. I know this army better than my grey knights and my demons combined, which I'm sure is a direct correlation to the list's success.

Round 1 I got paired up against a draigowing grey knight list in a kill point mission (which I will be battle reporting)

Rounds 2, 3, and 5 I got paired against horde orks and battle wagon orks, and balanced orks. Orks are an incredible easy match up for nids and I masacred all 3 of my games in relatively the same manner. It pretty much always comes down to the ymgarls and a crap ton of gaunts multi assulating 60-90 orks and killing them with fearless saves very early on. If you want me to battle report these I can, but all 3 games were relllativel simillar and there was very little in the way of advanced tactics in these games, no offence to any of my opponents, it's just that the match up was heavily in my favor.

Round 4 I got tabled by a dark eldar player (Luke who won) I play Luke almost weekly and I don't think either of us were surprised at all by the result, he's a fnatastc player who didn't make any mistakes. I can also battle report this one if you want, but it was pretty much on the lines of him rolling dice and me taking models off the table.

So onto round 1 vs grey knights

His list from memory

Draigo
Librarian- a crap ton of powers and 3 servo skulls
10 Paladins- 4 psy cannons 2 hammers, 1 staff, 4 halberds, 3 swords, all diversified, they had the banner of fuck you tyranids.
Solo paladin- hammer
Solo paladin- halberd
3 Ven dreads- 2 auto cannons with psybolt ammo

There was a lot of area terrain pretty much throown all over the board.

Looking at the list and the fact that it was kill points spearhead, I figured there was no reason for me to win. I won th roll to go first and took it. I deployed in my standard fashion with all of my monsters behind a gaunt wall ready to run riht at him... The ymgarls were put in a terrain piece where they could multi assualt 2 ven deads or the paadins if they came up.

The mission had special rules making the first 3 turns of the game night fight so his dreadnaughts were far up the board witht the paladins. The 2 solo paladins were deep striking.

On my turn 1 I felt that I had 2 options. Run away, hope to snipe off the solo paladins and hope the stealers kill the dreads or successfully run away also and barely win on kill points. Or run at him nd make a game out of it. After considering my options and realizing that regardless of how bad I lost I would get 7 points, I figured I should at least play for the win. So everything ran at him, I feel no pained a swarmlord and a trygon and immobilized a ven dread with hive guard.

My plan for this game was simple, get a multi assualt off on the paladins with 3 trygons and swarmlord (and the gaunts or stealers (to tie up the hammers and halberds) or try and kill the other 5 kill points in his army and not die, either were going to be easy.

On his turn 1 he walked back a little ( I was really hoping he would take the bait and charge at me) and shot a trygon down to 3 wounds (without feel no pain).

On my turn 2 my ymgarls failed to show up I think, and I pressed forward with the gaunt wall. I feel no pained the 3 wound trygon  (making it unappealing to shoot at, but sitll appealing for the kill point) ad the swarmlord. My guns mostly bounced off the dreads thanks to night fight. I did manage to paroxize the paladins with swarmlord., bringing htem to WS and BS 1.

On his turn 2 a paladin with the hammer showed up and deepstruck near his paladins. Very close to where the ymgarls would show up, although my opponent didn't know that at the time. He walked his entire paladin unit into the center of his deployment zone and put every model in a forest.  He continued to shoot the feel no pain trygon but it survived with 1 wound.

On my turn 3 my ymgarls showed up and multi assualted the 1 paladin and a dreadnaught, killing the paladin. (at the worst they trade kill points) I also spawn gauts with a tervigon. The gaunts walk up and so does a healthy trygon and the swarmlord. They all charge a dreadnaught that was about 6 inches in fron of his paladin unit. I actually failed to kill the dread though, damn venerable!

My plan was to use the consolidatin moves to move the trygon and swarmlord back and the gaunts in front to screen.

Since I failed to kill the dread I had to consolidate th un engaged gaunts and since when I moved them they were strung out in a congo line when I assualted they were a congo line and when I piled in they were in a congo line in fron of his paladins. His paladins could still assualt around them but we need a total of 12" on 2 different difficult terrain rolls.

Here's where I think my opponent made a fatal mistake. He charged the paladins into the ymgarls slaughtering them all. However, if he multi assualted the ymgarls and the guants (a very easy task) he could have made the whole combat a multi assualt in which my mosters would lose by about 10 and then get pulled into combat with the paladins. where they would quickly meet their fate to double hammer hand and auto passing force weapon checks.

But as it was he assualted the ymgarls and killed them, he also shot away the trygon with 1 wound, and I finished off the dread from the previous turn, cosolidating torwards his other dread.

His last paladin also showed up behind my army. I assume he didn't think I would tur around and split my army to deal with it. But against Draigowing like this every single kill point matters sO I was more than happy to just kill the paladin even if it meants putting my trygon out of position. I didn't relaize that that paladin had a halberd and would strike before my trygon though, thankfully he fai,ed to wond and my trygon killed it.

My swarmlord and trygon walked away from the paladins and charged a dreadnaught, killing it. They consolidated even further from the paladins. The gaunts that I spawned got right in front of the paladins , hopefully keeping them from moving anywhere useful.

Going into his bottom of 4 I'm up 4 kill points to 2.

On his turn 4 he said he wanted to disengage Draigo form the paladins (so the paladins could shoot something while Draigo killed the guants, but he ended his movement phase in coherency with the paladins. But I allowed him to fix this in the assualt phase and charge the gaunts anyway, killling them. The dread and paladins shot a tervigon and left it at 1 wound.

On my turn 5 the tervigon feel no pained itself and ran full speed away, 6" back plus 6" run getting out of range and sight. My hive guard failed to kill the last dread.

On his he failed to kill my hive guard who were in cover and had feel no pain.

The game ended there 4-3 me with a monor win for the nids with no bonus points. For such a terrible match up given the mission I'm very pleased about the result.

My opponent was a great sport and had an excellent looking army, we played a dentlemen's game and that's all I can ask for. Definitely looking forward to a rematch!

WFN Round 2

In round 2 I found myself all the way up on table one, facing off against Jesse's space marines. He had what I would consider to be one of the scariest space marine builts which is one that is mostly shooty based, and contains one or 2 of each type of unit. The reason I find this to be the scariest is simply because if someone has the balls to play such a "battleforce" like army they not only have the tools to deal with almost aanything but also they are probably going one hell of a good player.

My list

Coteaz 100
Inquisitor- rad and psykotrok grenades level 1 psyker hammer hand 3 servo skulls  94

Heavy
Dread- 2 twin linked auto cannons psy bolts searchlights 136
Dread- 2 twin linked auto cannons psy bolts searchlights 136
Land Raider Redeemer- Multi melta, psybolts searchlights extra armor 276
My opponent's list from memory.

Librarian- null zone and avenger
2 dread with 2 twin linked auto cannons
5 sternguard- 3 combi meltas 2 combi flamers
2 10 man space marine squads- melta las cannon combi melta, in rhinos
2 5 man space marine squads- las plas razors
1 unit of 2 attack bikes- multi meltas
1 typhoon (maybe he had 2?)
2 dakka preds- auto cannon 2 heavy bolters
5 devestters- 4 missiles in ass cannon razorback

The mission was dawn of war objective, There were 2 objective placed on the center line I believe and the 2 placed in our deployment zone. I put mine in the center behind a small los blocking building. He put his in area terrain in the far back of his deployment zone. The twist of the mission was night fight didn't happen turn 1 but instead happened turns 5-7.

He won the roll for first and took it. He deployed 2 halves of his 10 man tacticals on the board with las cannons near the objectives. He rolled on fairly spread out accross his deployment zone with eveything.

On my turn 1 I rolled on and rolled for night fight, despiete their being no night fight, damn habits! Because of this I couldn't see anything. Here is where I made my fatal mistake in my opinion. I came on fairly centered with my deployment, allowing his whole army to shoot at mine, (barring the devesaters who he admitted to deplloying poorly and had no los). I should have come on in the far right flank where there was almost no terrain, so my vehicles had more breathing room and a lot of his units would be out of position. Well live and learn I suppose.

On his turn he shot and immobilized my front most rhino which bottle necked me very badly, then blew up 2 more rhinos/razors and killed most of the occupants. He started to advance his 3 double melta units up my right flank to get to my land raider.

On the left flank my return fire shook a razorback and killed a attack bike... I could see that I would be losing this fre fight. And on the right I felt that it would be a mistake to commit the land riader in such a dangerous field. My plan was to use it's shooting and a psy back and strike squad to open up his rhinos, getting his marines on foot and then deathcult that flank. For the next 3 turns or so we would be trading blows on the right flank however he eventually won out as he blew up my rhino and decimated my strike squad.

As the game progressed up to turn 5 He shot my left flank up more and more leaving me with not much. He never targetted the immobilized rhino again since he didn't want to wreck it or explode it, giving me the option of going through it. Over the next 3 turns, he immobilized and weapon destroyed a dreadaught, killed a purifier squad, and a strike squad, as well as left the other 2 strike squads at 1 man, and 3 man respectively. By turn 3 I believe all my razors were wrecked or exploded in my deployment zone.

At some point through the game I got the idea of killing all of his troops and ignoring all the other stuff, forcing a draw or minor win for me, however I remember this became unattainable as I realized about half way through the game that he had 10 more marines then I thought in his 2 razorbacks (I thought they were empty until turn 3 or so)

Although things were looking grim I felt that I could still draw and if things went my way, maybe even pull a minor win.

On his turn 5 he flew a speeder 24" to contest my objective The score was 3-0 at the end of his top of 5, and I knew I had to pull some stuff out of my ass to do anything. I remember I moved something up to contest one of the objectives in the center that was held by his 2 razorbacks, I just don't remember what lol. I drove my land raider 12" forward and got my death cults out which multi charged 2 of his vehicles wrecking both, since hammerhand managed to go off twice. The deathcults were placed so that they were cotesting the objective. My 2 strike squads shot his speeder ad charged it, but could only shake it. If the game ended on 5 it would be a minor loss for me, however it went on.

Jesse forgot about turn 5-7 night fight which started to really hurt him as he could no longer sit there and shoot me off the table. He managed to kill whatever it was that I mvoed up to contest his objective and immobilize the dreadnaught I was planning on using to move up and contest it again. Damn. He also shot 3 or 4 squads at my deathcults, killing the inquisitor and 8 out of 10 deathcults.

There has been talk of me claiming tthat the deathcults had 4+ armor saves, I would just like to say here that I claimed no such thing. My opponent ad I have talked about it and we've come to agree that it was probably a misunderstanding of some sort. I would just like to say that I did not intentionally say the death cults had 4+ armor.

He also tank shocked a rhino through the building in my deployment zone to which I death or gloried with a hammer, who had cast hammerhand in the previous player turn. I told Jesse it was S 10, which in fact it was not since hammerhand expired (at the time I honestly thought it was S 10). While I would not have immobilized his rhino, and my justicar would  have died, it would have had no impact on the outcome of the game since I still contested the objective with 3 strikes. Regardess, I cheated, unintentionally however.

So now it was my turn 6. My purifiers from teh immobilized rhino got out and contested the objective (this was my plan if it went to turn 7.) My land riader moved up 6" and flamed 2 marine squads leaving the sternguard o just 1 guy and the librarian and the troop choice at 2 models. My 2 deathcults and coteaz were hoping to come in and kill the remaining marines and take the objective from him, giving us a draw, however I rolled a 3 for my difficult terrain test and failed the charge. The game ended with a minor win for Jesse, and a well earned win at that.

He played exceptionally well, with no major mistakes, and simply played better than me. Which is why he won. I would gladly play him in a rematch!

And my opponents list (from memory)

2 overlords with warscythes and mindshackles
5 units of 5 warriors- there were 2 crypteks with solar pulses, 6 crypteks with lances, and 2 lords with warscythes and mindshackles
5 Ghost arcs
3 Anhilation barges

All the crypteks were smattered about with the warriors, the 2 pulses went with one, the 6 lances went in groups on 2 in 3 other units, and the 2 lords joined the 2 overlords for a mini death star in the last.

Well going into this game I didn't really know what to expect since I have never played against this style army. Pretty much every necron list I've ever tested against has wither been scarab spam or wraith spam.

The mission was kill points and spear head.

I won the roll for first and took it, I deployed very aggressivel, and started walking my army up 6". I made a point to keep the raider away from his 4 warscythes, since that was his only decent chance at killing it.  My shooting proved largely inffective since most of hist stuff was either unshootable due to night fight or in cover, I don't think I did anything meaningful on my turn 1.

On his turn he returned the favor and shot up a rhino, everything else was insignificant. After that I kept pushing forward and he popped his second solar pulse, I believe on this turn I wrecked an anhilation barge. Most of my strike squad guys also got out to get some psy cannon shots. For the next 2 turns we traded kill points pretty evenly, I think by the end of turn 4 the score was 3-2 him with me destroying 2 anhilation barges and him killing 3 rhinos.

Playing against this style necron build reminded me alot of playing against mech eldar. My opponent used the board edges to maximize the distance between our armies and used soar pulses to get 2 more turns of shooting than the other army. I found it to be very interesting at least.

Back to the game! On my top of 5 I was down a kill point and honestly I expected a minor loss, draw, or minor win for the game at this point. I had to play a little aggressively to try to pull ahead, my land raider (after 2 turns of missing with the multi melta within 12") had finally managed to hit and wreck a ghost arc. That tied up the game. Then I believe its assualt cannon penetrated and shook another ghost arc, however now that it's been penned my dreadnaught tore into it. And lastly I unloaded a solid 24 psy cannon shots into his last anhilation barge, killing it. That was a really great turn 5, and on the chance it went to 6 I was starring at 2 warrior squads with my deathcults.

The way the point for the mission worked out if you had 1-2 more KP's then it was a minor win, 3 is a major win, and 4+ is a masacre. Right now after my turn 5 I was looking at 2.

His turn's shooting proved largely ineffective, killing nothing, but he had set up a charge with his death star with 4 warscythes on a strike squad. He was actually going to rapid fire his warriors which were attached to the lords and I reminded him that he couldn't charge if he did so. He then thanked me and charged in. I casted sactuary from coteaz who was in the land raider and a warrior and a lord (not overlord) died to dangerous. Then 1 sword and 1 psy cannon fialed their mindshackles, but my hammer passed. my 2 swords went first killing 1 warrior, my sword and cannon that fought myself did nothing. His return warcythe and warrior swings allowed me to allocate just 1 armor save to the hammer and have everyone else die. (since all of his attacks were at initiative 1 from sactuary) My hammer swung into his lord and force weaponed him. I had done 5 wounds to his 4 and won combat by 1. He failed his leadership 9 test and was caught by the one space marine. So in a combat in which the necrons charged and should have won, giving them a kill point, they lost and ran away giving me 3... It's incredibly ironic since I actually stoopped him from rapid firing so that he could charge but it hindsight his charge is what gave me the masacre!

I was now up 8 kill points to 3, and the game ended. It was a good game, not stressful at all, ad pretty tactical. I deffinitely enjoyed, althoguh I did have some pretty awesome luck!

The missions, while not standard were actually really well done and surprisingly awesome! Although it was the event;s first year an donly 24 people attended I highly, highly reccomend it for you guys next year.

On a simillar note, my friends Brad Nichols won best general, Eric Hoerger won 2nd best overall, and Bob Evers won best painted.

I will have battle reports coming soon!

1850

And the list he used,

Stormlord
The Diviner

3 Crypteks- 2 tremorstaves 1 chronometron
C'tan- writhing worldscape and stealth

3 units of 5 warriors

2 units of 6 wraiths
10 scarabs

3 spyders
2 spyders
2 spyders
The mission was pitched battle 3 objectives. I put 2 objectives close to each other and in the open so I wouldn't have to kill myself going through terrain to capture it, while he put 1 deep in a forest. He won the roll for first and gave it to me.

I deployed pretty centrally with dreads on the flanks 1 purifier and 2 strike squads on both sides of my land raider which was in the middle. In responce he deployed everything on one half of the board (the half with 2 objectives) since he had the speed to attack my army piece meal. He did put one wraith squad on the other side of everything completely isolated from his army. This was smart since it wasn't enough of a threat to make me want to dedicate some thing to them since whatever I dedicated would be out of position the rest of the game, so they were free to do whatever to my backlines.

On my turn 1 I decided it would be best not to move since everything would immobilize itself on 1's and 2's. So I just sat there and shot, I did manage to kill 2 scarabs.

On his turn 1 he spawned 7 more scarabs (15 total) and advanced with everything. He used a tremorstaff to put the land raider in difficult terrain, so it would be immobilized on a 1 or 2. And lightning from stormlord blew up a dreadnaught on the far flank and the purifiers on the main lines.

On my turn 2 I schooched around with things that could move, and the purifiers walked up as bait for the scarabs. I shot a dread at the C'tan and put 2 wounds on it, I also shot the purifiers on foot at it but night fight kept it safe. I managed to ill 2 wariths with shooting on the far flank.

On his turn 2 he advanced slightly immobilized the other purifier rhino on the far flank, and positioned. his scarab count was up to 22.

My turn 3 was simillar to my turn 2 except my shooting did nothing lol. I'm still afraid to move my land raider because I'd be immobilized o a 1 or 2.

On his turn 3 he decided to grow a pair and charge lol. The wraiths on the far flanks multi charged 2 razorbacks and a rhino which were still in my deployment zone wrecking the rhino, immobilizing a razorback and stunning the other. The tremorstaff put my land raider in terrain again. The scarabs (total 29) multicharged 2 razorbacks the purifiers and a dreadnaught along witht he wraiths who got into the purifiers. Things got sillly when dangerous terrain put wounds on 6 different scarab bases, and cleansing flame put wounds on another 8ish bases without actually removing any models. Silly rules are silly. The purifiers swung and killed about 3 bases, then all thepurifiers died and all the tanks exploded, putting another 7 or so wounds onto the scarabs and killing about 5 bases due to how silly the allocation was earlier. They got good consolidations, meaning my landraider would finally have to move in order fr the deathcults to charge.

On my turn 3
The 2 strike squad and purifier squad got out of their injured tanks and shot and charged the 4 wraiths, making quick work of them and creating an incredibly strong foothold on the lefft side of the board, which I could then use to push into the center. The strikes that got out of the exploded razors from the previous turn moved over ready to charge in to the wraiths and scarbas. Then the moment of truth, the land raider dove 12" and rollled 5 for dangerous terrain! He smashed through the writhing worldcape and unleashed the deathcultists. 1 large multi charge later and every single warith and scarab was dead. I got good consolidation rolls and got out of the c'tan's threat range.

Tactitcal note! Deathcults with rad grenades intakill T3 scarabs!

On his turn 3 he walked spiders torward my army and moved stormlord and orakon and thir squad of warriors over to an objective in the forest. He put some infantry in dangerous terrain with the tremorstaffs and shooting took the remaining purifier squad down to just 2 guys.

On my turn 4 I got the deathcults back in the land raider and advanced up the left flank with my 12 remaining grey knights they shot up a squad of 2 tomb spyders and killled one.

On his turn 4 His 5 spyders advanced more and tried to charge the land raider but failed due to difficult terrain. The other loan spyder walked over to protect the warrior squad in the middle from getting assulted. His shooting was minimal.

On my turn 5 the deathcults got out of the land raider and walked not through terrain and multi charged the spiders killing all of them. Yes, killing all of them. Rad greandes and hammerhand combined so that I wound T6 on 4's. A strike squad reentered the land radier which then drove 12" through terrain onto the objective stormlord and orakon and warriors are sitting on. My 2 purifiers charged a warrior squad in cover but the hammer died on the way in due to terrain. 1 cleansing flame and 2 power weapon wounds later and just 2 warriors were standing, however they didn't run.

On his turn 5 he shot the death cults down to just coteaz and 2 assasins and an inquisitor, the loan spyder charged into my deathcults and also died before t could swing, yay rad grenades! I consolidated even closer to his army. The 1 purfier stayed locked with the warriors, The C'tan failed to damage the land radier meaningfullu.

If the game ended here we draw, but it didn't.

On my turn 6 coteaz and friends charged a warrior squad on the objective, killing it. And a strike squad joined the combat with the purifier and warriros killing them. The assult cannon from the land raider and a psy cannon on heavy finished off the c'tan and that was pretty much game. No matter what I had at least one more objective than him and he could no longer kill my land raider,

great game and a good learning experience, I learned a lot about the new necrons from this one.

Grey knights 1850. and some brief thoughts about the eldar.

After a couple of test games against my friends Rich and Tom and their hardcore tournament lists I've discovered 3 things.

1. I suck with eldar. (hopefully do to lack of experience)

2.  I personally have found that I love creating large multi assualts and winning combat, killing large swathes of the enemy at once. The howling banshees sort of did that, but they aren't fast since the tank has to stand still to charge, and their multi charge capabilities are very low. So pretty much, this style army isn't my style.

3. Mech Eldar really just don't kill enough. Like in both games I played I don't think I killed more than 20 models...

I don't really know what I'm going to do with the list to make it work, but I'll play around with it and see what I come up with. A major overhaul is in order though.

So now for my latest grey knight list!

Thinking of Eldar

Well tht's not true, I actually bought some eldar lol, but here's what I'm thinking.

I wanted to go from something more of my style which is be as much of a dick to your opponent as you can, that seems to be all tau and eldar are good for. And to mitigate eldar's inate overcostedness I went as skimpy on the upgrades as possible. I also wanted to break the mold of 3 prisms. 4 5 man DA units in wave serpants and 3 units of 5 fire dragons in wave serpants, while still maintaining a competitve edge.

Back From Templecon!

Well this was the most fun and least fun convention I've been to all in one.

I got there on Thursday night and stayed up far past my bed time hanging out. Then on friday I played in the Warmahordes team tournament, my team went 4-1 while I personally went 5-0, so I was pleased. Then I decided it would be a good idea to play in the midnight warmachine event, where I didn't do so hot.

On my way up stairs I found my way to one of my friends rooms, and hung out with them until some stupid hour of the night/morning. I woke up at 8:30 on 2 hours of sleep, my shoes in a different room then the one I was in, and my army in the car. I texted my friend Simon Leen to find out when teh 40k event started and his responce was "Now." So I scrambled downstairs and explained my situation to the TO who was very understanding, and got my shit together as fast as I could.

Round one I found myself paired up against Sean Nayden, a player who is very skilled and we've crossed paths before. throughout the game I demonstrated that I was far from ready for this tough match, I was forgetting basic rules of assualt and I think I asked what his archon's save was about 12 different times. And of course it didn't help that Sean is probably of equal or even greater skill to me when I'm not hungover and sleepless. Needless to say I got my ass kicked, I mean I was tabled, it was bad...

After my round one tabling and my lack of sleep I asked Kieth the TO how much it would mess with the tournament if I dropped out to get some sleep. Apparently there was an odd number of players so me dropping didn't hurt the cause at all, thankfully. I then packed up my army, left it down there in my dazed state and passed out for 8 hours.  When I woke up I had a text from Sean telling me that Kieth found my army lol!

As much as I needed to get some rest I really wish I had played 40k on Sunday, because I litterally just sat there and watched all day. Not nearly as thrilling.

So that was my templecon adventure, I will be going back next year, but hopefully I can play!

Going to Templecon!

Skipping school to play games. Awesomesauce. I'll be back on Monday so don't expect any more posts until then, but I did jsut give you a nice battle report to read up on. I'll let you know how I do!

Round 2 + thoughts on Swarmlord

My thoughts on why I take a swarmlord over a regular tyrnat are simply that he answers a lot of things my list can't deal with otherwise. Swarmlord kills mephiston dead, and without him mephiiston could just run round instkilling my army. He also gives a solid answer to ork nobs, and THSS termies and pallies with his instakilling and forcing re roll invuls. His 18" synapse in almost required for my list as I only have 3 synapse creatures. The buffs he gives (prefered enemy ymgarls in particular) are just so powerful at times. And the +1 to reserves in litterally game changing, granted that a normal tyrant could do that. Lastly in my 2000 point list he also helps my 2 outflanking stealer uits show up where they are needed, since my 1850 list that you saw was just my 2k list minus those stealers he seems liess important.

Now onto round 2.

I got paired up with necrons! This was my first tournament game against the new necrons so I was pretty much learning the army as we went. And now I have to say, damn they are a good army.

Anyway his list,

Overlord- mindshackle scarabs, warscythe
command barge

Overlord- mindshackle scarabs, warscythe
command barge

2 crypteks- solarpulses
2 lords- warschythes
(2 of those guys had the thing that lets you deep struck from your current position, kind of like old veil of darkness, but worse. Don't remember what it's called)

10 Warriors
10 Warriors
5 Immortals- tesla carbines

5 Destroyers
5 Destroyers
10 Scarabs

Anihilation Barge
Anihilation Barge

While it's not even close to how I'd run necrons, it's certainly got its merits and it did give me some ideas.

The mission was pitched battle kill points and I won the roll for first and took it. I deployed in the iddle with everything far up and put the stealers in a suitable piece of terrain.

On my turn 1 I just ran up with everything, my hive guard tried to shoot but couldn't see through the night fight. I made sure to keep my backfield prety crowded so he couldn't physically land his cmmand barges over my army.

On his turn 1 he hung back with pretty much everything except for an overlord who flew over a tervigon on the end causing a wound, and the scarabs who were moving full speed ahead. He used his anihilation barges to kill a gaunts squad screening half my army and then he put some wounds on my tervigon with the destroyers. The scarabs charged in and managed to finish my wounded tervigon and consolidate in front of my lines to keep me from advancing with a lot of my stuff.

On my turn 2 I really wanted to have my ymgarls to show up to charge a destroyer squad a warrior squad and the immortals, but they failed. I charged like 5 monsters into the scarabs just to get the extra movement from the consolidation, and the hive guard managed to stun an anhilation barge which stayed stunned on his turn. 1 of my trygons got feel no pain and rushed out in front of my army.

On his turn he deepstruck a squad of warriors behind my army and tried to kill my hive guard, he didn't realize they were T6. The overlord got out of his command barge and charged swarmlord and i failed my leadership test so I was attacking myself. I was terrified of illing myself since I cause instant death, luckily he only got one attack that failed to wound. His destroyers blew away a trygon :(

On my next turn the game really took a turn for the worst for him. My ymgarls came out and charged a destroyer squad and the the immortals causing the destroyers to run off the board and the immortals to stay locked with only 2 models so he couldn't even shoot them. A trygon rolled like a beast for fleet and charged a warrior squad in his deployment zone forcing them to run off the board. And the last trygon ran backwards and charged the warriors that deepstruck behind me forcing them to run away too. And I charged a tervigon into swarmlords combat to make him randomize which model got hit by the mindshackle scarabs, he got the tervigon who failed his LD test and put 2 wounds on himself, but then swarmlord killed the lord who failed to get back up.

A really great turn.

His other lord came out to play and started going for killpoints, he charged my gaunts and killed about 5 with combat rez. His last destroyers shot at the trygon that made it into his deployment zone and did 4 wounds to him, killing him. The anhilation barges tried to do stuff but whiffed.

I put feel no pain on the unhurt trygon and rushed him towards the destroyers, giving them nowhere to run due to the board edge. I gave him the ultimatum of put 6 wounds on the feel no pained trygon or lose your last destroyer unit. The swarmlord killed a command barge, and the tervigon killed an anhilation barge. The stealers now free also rolled well for fleet and got to his other anhilation barge and killed it. And somehow the hive guard managed rear shots on the last command barge and exploded it. The overlord did manage to kill the last of my gaunts.

The game devolved into the lord killing my hiveguard for easy kill point while I ran way from him because I  was up on kill points regardless. And the destroyers failed to kill the trygon so they got eaten.

I won the game with 3 bonus points and put myself in 2nd place by a mile going into round 3. I was playing my buddy Rich who I play against regularily and he really knows his stuff. But he's only 1 battle point ahead of me! We'll see what happens :)

Results from the RTT

The RTT had some really stiff competition there with a lot of the NJ big names showing up. I think there were about 22 players in attendance, and 4 of them (myself included) participated in the Nova Invitational.

I played the tyranid list which I posted earlier,

HQ
Swarmlord 280
Tyrant Guard- lash whips 65

Elites
2 Hive Guard 100
2 Hive Guard 100
8 Ymgarl Stealers 184

Tervigon- adrenal glands toxin sacs cluster spines catalyst 195

Heavy
Trygon- adrenal glands 210

The tournament was a little light on terrain which made my life difficult as a tyranid player but it was alright. It used standard book missions with a win/loss/draw format with no margin of victory, however there was up to 4 battle points you could get each round.

Round one I got paired up against a young guard player who wasn't very experienced but had a great attitude about the game. He was the definition of a casual player that just wanted to get better. He didn't have an optimized list or any idea how to properly use it but he was a great sport.

His list was a bunch of infantry squads, a few special weapon squads, a company command squad, yarrick, some ogryns, 3 leman russes, a few ratlings, and a banewolf.

The game was dawn of war capture and control. I won the roll for first and put swarmlord and 2 tervigons on the line as far up as possible. I also deep struck my trygons. He came on but he didnt really have the long range fire power to deal  with me so his shooting was ineffective. When my ymgarls came on they multi charged 7 (yes 7) different units and made them all run off the table. It was a pretty bloody tabling but he was a great sport and I tried to teach him tactics wherever I could to help make him better. He seemed to be having a blast at the event despite being so new, which is all one can reasonably hope for at a tournament.

I maxed out on that round and got paired up with necrons for the first time since the new book released. I'll go into more detail about the next 2 games.

There's a local 1850 point RTT coming up. and I think I'm going to bust out my nids, although my demons are looking pretty appealing.

2011 a year in review

It's a little late to think of things from 2011, but I'm doing it anyway! The reason I do this is to find trends that occur twhen I play (good and bad) and see how I can correct them. Plus it's a bunch of random facts, and random facts are fun!

(Note that all data is based off of tournament games only)

Grey Knights
Win % = 82.7%
Win % against Space Wolves = 100% (5 games)
Win % against dark eldar = 100% (2 games)
Win % against ork = 100% (3 games)
Win % against blood angels = 100% (2 games)
Win % against Necrons = 100 % (1 game)
Win % against Space Marines = 50% (2 games)
Win % against Chaos Marines = 100% (1 game)
Win % against Guard = 66.7% (3 games)
Win % against Sisters = 100% (1 game)
Win % against demons = 100% (2 games)
Win % against Tyranids = 100% (1 game)
Win % against Grey Knights = 0% (1 game)

So we learned that I have lost to guard, vanilla marines, and other grey knights. What we can take from that is that we now know an army that is better at shooting down transport vehicles than I am has the upp edge against me. I noticed this trend afteer Nova and I think the answer for it is paladins, but I've yet to play test it.

Tyranids
Win % = 100% (I've gone undefeated with them in 2011 so I'll just list the armies I played against and how many times)
Space Marines (1 game)
Orks (3 games)
Eldar (1 game)
Space Wolves (2 games) (both were standard jaws missile lists)
Grey Knights (1 game)
Deathwing (1 game)

Although their sample size is smaller, based o win records this does lend itself to me making tyranids my go to tournament army 2012 (at least until 6th ed). More testing to follow.

Demons
Win % = 62.5%
Space Marines = 50% (4 games)
Tyranids = 66% (3 games)
Chaos Marines= 100% (2 games)
Deathwing= 100% (1 game)
Dark Edar= 100% ( 1 game)
Blood Angels = 0% (1 game)

Okay, now that I've complete going through my tournament list here's some interesting food for thought. space marines are the only army to have better than a 100% loss record aginst moore than one army. In fact, 2 polar opposite armies, gery knights and demons, This goes to show that they are perfectly capable of balanced, competitive lists, and that blanaced lists are the ones that prevail.

Also take note that Space Wolves never won a game out of the 8 that were played, and 2 were against tyranids. This is good evidence to prove that they really aren't that big and scary anymore. This also explaiins why many space wolf playerzs are switching off the band wagon.

Now if we look at what my records mean we will realize that vanila marines have the strongest showing against me, personally. That pretty much means I should start taking them more seriously and testing against them more frequently.

What else do you guys think this means?

The Brown Paintbrush is back!

It's been a very long few months of non stop college and school crap but that's all over with now. So far I've gotten into Rutgers for those of you who care, and I'm still waiting to hear back from a lot of schools.

I've done a lot of thinking over the past few months on where I want to go with my gaming and I think I'm really going to keep trying to make my tyranids work. I've gotten only a handful of playtest games in over the past few months, but they've all ben very successful. I keep putting myself against some of the best compeitiors I can find with som awful match ups (dark eldar) and usually I just come out on top or I just barely lose. Pretty much all my games have been close and I now have a 50-50 record against dark eldar with nids, a match up I previously believed was unwinnable.

As far as upcoming events go I've missed a few I really wish I could have attended like Mechanicon and Conflict GT. Congrats to my friends Simon and Andrew for taking Mechanicon and Conflict. I'm also going to be missing St. Valentines Day this year, another event which I've previously attended frequently.

But! Now that I'm more or less done with school I can start going to GT's again. I'm going to Templecon in February, although whether I'm going to playing the Warhammer tournament or the Warmachine tournament on Saturday has yet to be decided. I've also signed up for Colonial GT which is run by my buddy Chris Nanry. And I'm all signed up to go for Adpeticon. I've been invited to be part of 2 different ATC teams, but I'm not sure if I can make it out there or not.

Anyway that's a lot to digest at once, but the point is, you should pay attention to my blog again, because I can actually post things now!
