Quick revisit to grey knights

Despite the upcoming GT I will be attending I have a hard time staying focused.  Since Adepticon hit, I keep hearing news of all these great players rising out of nowhere, and I have to say, I feel invigorated to beat face.  That got me thinking about the nova invitational.  The ultimate tournament in competitiveness for the few lucky enough to be invited.  Now I'm fairly certain I'll be bringing grey knights, but we'll see.  Word on the street is the invitational will be 1750, so this is what I'll be testing in the near future.

11 pieces of armor.  Decent long rang fire power.  Great supression fire power.  6 melta guns.  Solid combat ability.  Mobility.  Options.  Reliability in not getting seized on.  This army seems to have everything I could possibly need to kick ass and take names.  But, we'll see.

What do you think?

  1. Very similar (ie, identical pretty much) to one of the GK lists I've been looking at. The only difference i have is:

I don't get why people like razorbacks. You're firing 3 str 6 shots from your tanks gun, which may get blown off, all the while you've got a guy with a 2 shot, str 7 rending gun inside wondering why he can't pop his head out. For my money, I like rhino's, but, ymmv.

Also, I'd fill out the halberds on the purifiers, for 2 points a pop, I don't think you can pass up initiative 6. Since most people run 5 man tactical squads in the SW/BA lists, it's a big edge to have 4 initiative 6 power weapon attacks to reduce enemy attacks back.

  2. Thanks for the input Andrew!

The reason people like razorbacks is fairly simple, they add threats. I mean yeah they wont do much against marines, aside from thinning out troops or knocking out the occasional land speeder/shaking a razorback, but against things like dark eldar, those strength 6 shots add up and can really be the game decider. Also in mass they can probably work together to destroy a rhino or razorback or weaken a squad. Another solid reason to take them is theyy add anti tank (sort of) at range. At least enough anti tank to shake things. to give you the edge in a game against guard or razor wolves. Being able to shoot the psycannon from inside is nice, but it's nothing gained if you disembark (by choice or by force).

The halberds are solid, that's for sure. Just don't know where to cut the points from.

  3. Having vulnerable guys walking beside perfectly good transports with hatches to be shot from just makes me leary.

Maybe it's the guard/eldar squishy mentality clinging to me, I suppose with a 3+ armor save, being on foot becomes a safer prospect.

  4. I would certainly drop a hammer for the Halberds.

Not having had any time yet to play with/against GK how do you think the MSU approach compares to BA/SW? I like the idea of 10 Knights with Psi-Ammo in a Rhino backed up by the Purifiers in Razors and some Chimera Henchmen.
