Dark Angels competitive... What!?

So GW decided to releasse a new faq which actually did something besides nerf the tyranid book :'(.  They made dark angels (and black templars) competitive!  So here's my take on  properly built dark angel army.

HQ
Belial- TH SS 130

Troops
5 Deathwing- 4 TH SS 1 chainfist stormbolter cyclone missle 240
5 Deathwing- 4 TH SS 1 chainfist stormbolter cyclone missle 240
5 Deathwing- 5 TH SS 1 cyclone missle 235
5 Deathwing- 5 TH SS 1 cyclone missle 235
5 Deathwing- 5 TH SS 1 cyclone missle 235
5 Deathwing- 5 TH SS 1 cyclone missle 235

Fast
2 Land speeders- typhoon missles multi meltas 150
2 Land speeders- typhoon missles multi meltas 150
2 Land speeders- typhoon missles multi meltas 150

2000 exactly.  For 1850 delete 1 land speeder squad.  It pumps out an ass load (thats a scientific number) of missle launcer shots a turn.  24 specificlly, but who's counting?   6 multi meltas to help deal with the occasional land raider.  And 31 TH SS terminaters that walk up and beat your face into the ground.  '

Did I mention every single model is a threat?  Much like my current demon list which you can find a few posts down there are no wasted points.  Every single point spent contributes to the game.  Not like when you have a 5 man tactical squad with a melta where the other 4 guys are bullet catchers, or a vet squad with 3 meltas and 7 guys are bullet catchers.  I find that armies that spend all their points on stuff that actualy does things are at a severe advantage to those who waste them like guard or marines.  When I play my demons I often find myself having tabled the enemy by turn 4 with a few units in reserve and others having never seen combat.  Hopefully the same will be true here.

  1. I'd love to see some tactics for this list. How would deploy versus certain armies, etc.?

So you don't think it's worth it to take a standard and apocethcary?

  2. Standard is nice but with the amount of combat power I have its not really necessary. Feel no pain on 1 squad doesnt really do anything. They can throw attrition wounds and such on the other squads and light the up the feel no pain squad with plasma, las and melta.

Army wide fnp is sick like BA can do. Giving to one squad when its not a deathstar is like meh, good players just play around it.

As far as tactics its pretty much like deploy as far forward as possible and move and shoot. If I'm going second I might reserve the speeders, and if there's a land raider I might deep strike them. Reserving the whole army and coming in deathwing style is a cool idea, but I cant think of many scurcumstances where I'd do it.

The army is designed to move forward with krak missles supressing long range support and wrecking light transports. Then sit on objectives and dare people to take you off.

  3. I like it. It's moderately similar to what I'm currently building because of the new book but you've got an extra 225pts because you can only have a single speeder w/typhoon on it in a DA support squadron. Just like SW's. With the 225 I'd see about adding another termi squad or maybe 2 dreads?

  4. Oh thanks for informing me Hulk I had no idea. I don't really know what to add. I could drop the 2 chain fists and make all the squads identical at 235. Then add another termie squad. Three whirlwinds are actually appealing since I'm worried about hordes and I can play them way back.

  5. You can only have 1 typhoon per squad.

  6. Thinking aloud here, it takes 15 low AP or 30 regular AP to scrap a squad... so yeah, this is a tough list to hurt.

But I look at the list and lack of ranged power and think, damn, a Dual-Lash list would have its way with this.

Talk about rock-paper-scissors, Mech beats Lash beats Deathwing...

I think Harlequins (does anyone outside my gaming group use them anymore?) would also be problem since they can torrent a squad of DW pretty easily.

  7. That first sentence should say "15 low AP or 30 regular AP wounds"

  8. Well it's rare these days to see lash armies, due to the dominance of mech. But, lash still has a place competitively. It can really put a dent in a lot of the armies out there, and only really struggles vs mech ig or razotback spam. Everything else it can handle fairly well.

I do believe death wing can hold their own pretty well against lash. You can really play the range game at first and de mech them with all of your missles, since lash only has a 24" range then move up all at once and overload his capacity to lash. Admitedly its a tough match.

Harlequins have a very good place in footdar. Which is just about as competitive as lash. It's strong, but wont beat mech msu lists.
